Advisory Council Members

The Society has 13 primary service locations throughout the state. Each location works within their community and surrounding communities to help children and to provide quality services and programs to their families. This great effort is achieved in part through the active participation and dedication of local Advisory Council members. Advisory Council members help make decisions that promote the mission of the Society and identify needs in their communities while assisting with the development of both short- and long-term plans to address those needs.

Advisory Council members create and take part in multiple community engagement events throughout the year. Each year, members are asked to help plan and promote open houses for their locations, as well as fundraisers and other community events with fun activities for children and families.

As more children come into our care, the need for our services increases, and our programs continue to grow. Over the years, members have worked hard at different locations creating Capital Campaigns to raise funds for Emergency Child Shelters and larger community-based service offices, allowing us to provide more family support programs and to meet their communities’ needs.

In every community, there is work to be done and many ways that you can help make a difference. To become an Advisory Council member, please contact a location nearest you.

WECAN Program

Our WECAN program recruits and trains volunteers and mentors. Volunteers promote positive role modeling and help with social skill building and tutoring, while focusing on the strengths and interests of a child. WECAN provides one-on-one mentoring, summer camps, reading programs, special events, and extracurricular activities. Volunteers serve in Berkeley, Cabell, Greenbrier, Logan, Mercer, and Wood Counties.
